A great book for family devotions - our kiddos are 8, 10, and 13 and there’s something for all of us (parents included) in each reading!

Designed for Lent, this beautiful devotional for families could be used any time of the year。 There are 20 woodcuts from the Old Testament and 20 from the New Testament, together showing God's plan from the beginning of time。 Each has a Bible reference, a key verse, and thoughtful questions for reflection。 There are also suggestions for songs and some endnotes。 Written and illustration by a husband and wife team, Kate and Joe Hox。 Designed for Lent, this beautiful devotional for families could be used any time of the year。 There are 20 woodcuts from the Old Testament and 20 from the New Testament, together showing God's plan from the beginning of time。 Each has a Bible reference, a key verse, and thoughtful questions for reflection。 There are also suggestions for songs and some endnotes。 Written and illustration by a husband and wife team, Kate and Joe Hox。 。。。more

How can you introduce your children to Jesus? In Who Is Jesus? Kate Hox presents 40 pictures to help you share Jesus with your family。Exciting and InsightfulWith bold illustrations, this book will help get your kids curious about discovering who Jesus is and what he came to do。 By opening with Jesus Is the Firstborn Over All Creation, the book shares Colossians 1:15–17 with a short devotion and reflection questions。 The rest of the book follows this pattern, and it is exciting and insightful。Wha How can you introduce your children to Jesus? Kate Hox’s Who is Jesus is a 40-lesson journey through the Bible on a mission to discover Jesus more fully and deeply。 Each lesson is referred to as a “day” and includes a key verse, Bible passage, reflection, questions, and even song suggestions (at the end of the book)。 There is one illustration per segment that accompanies 1 1/2 – 2 pages of text。 The short reads are interesting and informational, and they walk through various books of the Bible with both well-known and lesser-known stories, Kate Hox’s Who is Jesus is a 40-lesson journey through the Bible on a mission to discover Jesus more fully and deeply。 Each lesson is referred to as a “day” and includes a key verse, Bible passage, reflection, questions, and even song suggestions (at the end of the book)。 There is one illustration per segment that accompanies 1 1/2 – 2 pages of text。 The short reads are interesting and informational, and they walk through various books of the Bible with both well-known and lesser-known stories, facts, and tidbits。 The topics progress through the Old Testament, beginning with Genesis, and into the New Testament。The questions for most segments are thought-provoking and may require more in-depth study or review, like a true Bible study。 As one example, Day 23’s reflection questions include: Read Isaiah 42:1。 How does this story fulfill Isaiah’s prophecy? And another: Why is it so important that Jesus was sinless? See 2 Corinthians 5:21 and Hebrews 4:15。There isn’t an age range specified on Amazon for this book, but it isn’t your typical “picture book” as the subtitle might imply。 This book is a teaching tool and I would recommend it for ages 7 and up to get the most benefit。 There is so much content included that children would benefit from repeating these lessons as they grow and mature。The illustrations represent the key topics。 Many have a dark look and feel。 They definitely weren’t what I expected from the light and bright cover image, but the graphic novel style appeals to the target audience。 The lessons are categorized as “days”, but the book doesn’t have to be used as a one-a-day。 Who is Jesus would make a great family activity for any time of the year, but would make a particularly good Lenten season or Christmas activity。Our Christian Book Reviews: The book reviews at Finding God Among Us focus on Christian books – adult and children, fiction and nonfiction。 Our specialty is books on faith and new Christian book releases。 We’re proud to be included in the Top 20 Christian Book Review Bloggers。 I chose to read this book from New Growth Press in exchange for my honest opinion。 。。。more

Who Is Jesus? 40 Pictures to Share With Your Family by Kate Hox is a fantastic devotional for your family to use during the Lent and Easter season。 Who Is Jesus? 40 Pictures to Share With Your Family contains 40 devotion entries that takes you on a journey from Genesis to Revelations。 Each of the devotions has a introductory Bible verse, discussion questions, and Bible references at the end。 The 40 devotion entries are divided into 20 devotions based in the Old Testament and 20 devotions based i Who Is Jesus? 40 Pictures to Share With Your Family by Kate Hox is a fantastic devotional for your family to use during the Lent and Easter season。 Who Is Jesus? 40 Pictures to Share With Your Family contains 40 devotion entries that takes you on a journey from Genesis to Revelations。 Each of the devotions has a introductory Bible verse, discussion questions, and Bible references at the end。 The 40 devotion entries are divided into 20 devotions based in the Old Testament and 20 devotions based in the New Testament。I loved how each devotion seamlessly intertwines the Old Testament and New Testament stories together。 If a devotion entry primarily used the Old Testament as it’s base, it would always correlate to the New Testament and vice versa。 I loved how much of an emphasis was put on both Testaments–that both the Old and New Testaments hold equal importance in God’s Word。 I love how easy each devotion was to understand and how the discussion questions could evoke powerful family discussions。 I love the simple, yet powerful illustrations that are in Who Is Jesus? 40 Pictures to Share With Your Family。 Even though this book is meant to be used during the Lent and Easter season, it can be used any time of the year。I believe Who Is Jesus? 40 Pictures to Share With Your Family would make a great addition to any family’s library and be perfect for family devotions during the Lent and Easter Season。 I also believe it would be a great resource in a minister’s library。 I highly recommend this book and believe it will be a useful and fun way to engage in God’s Word, not only during Easter and Lent, but all year round。Thank you to New Growth Press for gifting me a copy of Who Is Jesus? 40 Pictures to Share With Your Family to review。 All thoughts and opinions are my own。(My review is also on my blog, Leslie's Library Escape。) 。。。more

Let me put it up front that this is a great book。 You’re 40 days with this devotional will be impactful。 But I have to clear something about this book。 No these are not negative stuff but it will help you know before hand what this book is about and have a great time enjoying it 。First。 the subtitle。 “40 Pictures To Share With Your Family” doesn’t mean this is a picture driven book that you’ll meditate with a great artwork and a few lines or Bible verses。 This is not a picture book。 The illustra Let me put it up front that this is a great book。 You’re 40 days with this devotional will be impactful。 But I have to clear something about this book。 No these are not negative stuff but it will help you know before hand what this book is about and have a great time enjoying it 。First。 the subtitle。 “40 Pictures To Share With Your Family” doesn’t mean this is a picture driven book that you’ll meditate with a great artwork and a few lines or Bible verses。 This is not a picture book。 The illustrations of Joe Hoax are amazing here for sure。 A departure from the books he usually illustrated from New Growth Press that are for kids。 The artworks here are penetrating and compliments the devotional entries。 I wonder if Joe Hox would be doing comicbooks soon which I think he can pull it off。What is lit on this devotional book is that Kate didn’t wrote the “names” or “titles” of Jesus in a random way。 Instead she followed the biblical narrative。 Usually for target audience of this kind of book, it would start with Genesis or presenting Jesus as the serpent crusher。 Instead, she started with Jesus being the first born (Colossians 1: 15-17) meaning its way before creation when it was just the Trinity。 Hox is straight on setting up Jesus divinity at the beginning that building it up and discussing it as the book progresses or being saved for the climax。 This is a crucial thing to have it out that early in the book。So after setting up with that verse in Colossians, Who is Jesus? then flows from Genesis to Revelations。 Yes, Revelations is in the final chapter and wow, Kate Hox really poured her powers over it by presenting an awesome finale that will move you。 If you have to read just one entry that will leave you at awe with Jesus, then this is the one。I know I told you the spoiler but let’s rewind back。 Each chapters tells you a summary of the stories pertaining to the names or title of Christ。 I enjoyed every bit of it because Kate Hox is not just a good story teller she also sprinkle backstories that are familiar and some that are new to me。 Nicely done, refreshing and a winner for me。 Which makes me almost forget that this is a devotional book for lent。This may be a devotional but the written part are meaty。 Again don’t be fooled by the word “devotional”。 So this is not an inspirational book if that’s your definition of devotional。 The chapters are short enough to be devotional but the content is not。 The “Reflect” section at the end of each chapter are not just an add on but it helps you meditate deeper to what has been discussed。 I’m impressed by what Kate Hox wrote in this book。Who is Jesus? is what a lent devotional should be。 For a reviewer like me I have to read this book in a fast pace。 It leaves me a bit weary if I have the “devotional mode” reading。 It’s meant to be read daily。 When I switch on my “regular book” reading I still enjoy it。 Either way you’ll enjoy reading, sharing and soaking your soul with who Jesus。My verdict:4。5 of out 5(Did you enjoy what you read? This is an outstanding book! There's a lot to love about it, but here are my Top 3:1。 It helped me see more clearly how Jesus is woven through the entirety of Scripture。 I know that everything in Scripture points to our Savior, and I love seeing this come to life in ways I don't always think about。2。 I am not a fan of pictures/images of Jesus, and almost every Bible storybook/devotional has ample depictions of Jesus。 I can't even tell you how much I appreciate a devotional about Jesus that's not This is an outstanding book! This probably isn't a concern to a lot of people, but this is a gift to those who prefer to avoid images of Jesus。3。 I love having the key verse written out at the beginning of every devotional。 What a perfect memory verse opportunity!Bonus thing I love about it: there's a list of corresponding songs list at the end for every devotional! I think that's a wonderful idea and so great for families who enjoy singing together。 。。。more
